SPCA Cupcake Day

Flox class baked up a storm for SPCA cupcake day. They baked and iced over 200 cupcakes and made $214 profit to donate to the SPCA. This is enough to provide a warm bed to a puppy for a week.

Everyone at school enjoyed eating their delicious cupcakes. Well done Flox learners!

Hay Park School and May Road School collaborate on Genius Hour project.

On Tuesday the 2nd of September, McCahon and Flox learners walked to May Road School for our first Genius Hour collaboration session.

Genius Hour allows students to learn about their passions and find out about things they want to know during a set period of time at school. McCahon and Flox learners have worked on Genius Hour projects before, but this is the first time we have collaborated with students from another school. May Road School is part of the Ako Hiko cluster so we went to team up with their Year 5 and 6 Chromebook classes. We had a great time getting to know new people and talking about our "I wonder" questions. A big thank you to May Road School for hosting us.

Take a look at this video to see what we got up to.

International Languages Week Mufti Day

On Friday the 22nd of August we had a mufti day to celebrate International Languages Week. Children came dressed in an outfit reflecting their culture - what a colourful day! We had prizes for the best dressed child in each class.

Here are the McCahon learners all dressed up in their cultural outfits.

PB4L Community Night

We had a great PB4L (Positive Behaviour 4 Learning) community night on the 20th of August.  Lots of parents came along to learn all about PB4L at Hay Park School and joined in for some Circle Time with children and teachers.

Thank you to Henry and Kay from the Board of Trustees who spoke about PB4L and how it helps their children to manage themselves positively both in and out of school. Remember the key to for PB4L is to remain positive - to model being positive and to reward the positives with a smile, a supportive word or a hug.

Tisi and Edwin from the Ministry of Education were impressed with our work to date with PB4L at our school. They were very impressed with the way our parents are joining us to create the most successful and positive home and school learning partnerships.

Here is a PB4L video made here at Hay Park School about being a respectful friend.
